Eating for rejuvenation


For most people, being on a spiritual path brings with it the principles of vegetarian living.  I too wanted to uphold the precepts of not eating meat to obtain all the benefits that spirituality had to offer.  While it is certainly much easier to enter meditative states by abstaining from eating meat, it is not so easy to obtain perfect physical health through this alone.

When you move from a poor diet to a healthy diet, it doesn’t mean that you will automatically experience the effects of complete rejuvenation.  Only when you know the exact laws of hygiene does this become possible.  Therefore, you need to gather the right information and then make the choices that work for you.

“The greatest of all diet reforms is the change from meat-eating to a meatless diet. This is also the first step on the spiritual path, the first gesture that rightness, justice, compassion, purity are being set up as necessary to human and humane living, in contrast to animal living.” — Paul Brunton

Figuring out a game-plan to get back to health involves a commitment that is based on the PRINCIPLES of revering and honoring life.  Even though we never know when we are going to pass away, at least we can enjoy a quality of life that most others would never know.

“So it is, Manjushri. There is not a single being, wandering in the chain of lives in endless and beginningless samsara, that has not been your mother or your sister. An individual, born as a dog, may afterward become your father.  Each and every being is like an actor playing on the stage of life. One’s flesh and the flesh of others is the same flesh. Therefore the Enlightened Ones eat no meat. Moreover, Mahjushri, the dharmadhatu  is the common nature of all beings, therefore Buddhas refrain from eating meat.”  — Angulimala Sutra

The ideal:

For healing, rejuvenation, and regeneration to occur physically being on a completely raw-food diet is essential for optimal health to take place.  It does take time to get to this level of purity.  It also takes a certain willingness to get educated properly in order to have confidence that this process works.  Nonetheless, whenever you create the right conditions in your body, healing will eventually come about.

Abiding with nature is the slow and steady way to become whole.

In order to create the right conditions for healing to occur it would be wise to complete a liver-cleanse and then an extended OJ fast.  Once you accomplish these pre-requisites, then you can choose to continue eating well, modify your diet, or go completely back to your old ways.  It is entirely up to you.

You never want to become obsessed or extreme about this.  You just want to give your body some time so that it has the chance to recuperate, balance and regenerate itself.

It may be that you are ready to take the next step and eat even healthier than before.  It is important to note that you don’t have to worry that you will be eating this way forever.  You could simply set a time limit for how long you want to cleanse and purify this way.

Here are two alternative diet-plans that create the precise conditions to maintain a healthy body:

Food combining:

While you are in the transition from an ovo-lacto vegetarian to a raw food diet it is best to learn the Food Combining Protocols outlined by Dr. Hay.  If you cannot become a complete Raw Foodist right away, that is OK.  No problem.  At the very minimum, you can have one cooked meal per day.  Over time you can become stricter.

The reason to follow these food-combining rules is because you want your body to run more efficiently and not accumulate acids in your body.  This path is one of making better choices with awareness of what is correct or incorrect for your body.

For example, right food combining means you would NOT mix proteins and carbohydrates.  Eating pizza would be a wrong food combination because the cheese is protein and the bread is a carb.  If you eat the wrong combination then acidosis sets in and invariably disease is not far behind.

Mono-diet:

The mono-diet is something you can adopt to refine your system more precisely than food-combining does.  The mono-diet says to eat only one food at a time.  This is a more perfected method to assure you are not making any mistakes and accumulating acids.  It is a simple process.  If you desire grapes then you keep eating all the grapes you want until you are full.

As a general rule, ten minutes later your stomach should be empty of fruit.  Then you could pick another food.  Maybe you wanted almonds next.  You would eat all the almonds your body desires until you weren’t hungry anymore.  It may take your system about 45 minutes or more to digest these nuts.

This is how you will come to know your body in exact detail.  Just be mindful and see how your body handles each particular food.  In all cases, try to get into the habit of chewing all your food into a liquid.  Your stomach is not a grinder.  It needs all the help it gets from the enzymes in your salivary glands.

WARNING: the following information is for informational purposes and no one can encourage you to move in this direction unless you are willing to self-experiment and have guidance/permission from your doctor, lama, healer or guru.

It has been said that grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet that obeys nature in the correct way.   But, how many really know that breads are poor choices for food?  The way breads are made today may actually cause more harm than good.  For example, the ingredient in white bread utilizes the same paste to put up your wallpaper in your home.  Not good at all.

“I have to agree with the old medical books, bread is the staff of death, but if a person could chew it to a liquid, it would do much less harm.” –MH

Furthermore, it may be surprising to hear what the Master Herbalist has to say about vegetables.  How many people know that most vegetables are not proper human foods?

“Vegetables are not natural, they grow too quickly. BUGS love vegetables, because nature wants them destroyed. Humans need very small minerals that fruits from the tree possess. Minerals in the fast growing vegetables are too BIG and are known to get in the blood stream and can’t get out the kidneys, so they stick to the veins and clog our circulation over time.” –MH

It may sound strange and even shocking to hear that.  The good news is, when we are healthy and our VITALITY and LIFE-FORCE is STRONG we can pretty much eat anything and everything.  But, when we are sick and debilitated and have a so-called incurable disease we need to take every precaution to get back to health.

Three signs:

Some signs to look for while cleansing and eating healthy and taking herbal supplements:

  1. the skin becomes clearer
  2. the hair grows in thicker and darker
  3. the teeth become whiter

This is very important to understand.  While experiencing the qualities of rejuvenation, the nails will begin to feel stronger and take on a clear sheen to them and will not look cloudy.  The hair will become thicker and appear wet, as if filled with life-force, and not dry or falling out.  And lastly, the teeth will become much whiter and not look sickly yellow.

TIPS:

With the above information you have a tool to gauge where you are at.  Even so, one needs to study extensively these PROTOCOLS of abiding with nature.  MH acquired lead-poisoning from the factory he worked at, and only got his health back after following Nature’s laws.

Likewise, Dr. William Howard Hay had renal disease or kidney failure.  In the old days, it was called Bright’s disease and now the term is chronic nephritis.  Both these men achieved rejuvenation by following Nature and went on to document their results for the benefit of all.

Discovering the truth certainly comes from self-applied prevention.  I advise anyone to start reading MH’s 108 Pages booklet and the Dr. Hay book, Health via Food to get started.

One cure, cures all


MH, the master herbalist, at the Ask Barefoot Herbalist forum, often repeats the phrase that “one cure, cures all” regarding illness.  This means the root cause of disease can be eliminated by abiding by the Laws of Nature rather than going against it.

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” — Genesis 1:29

If you seek to “obey nature” you can rest assure that nature will always guide you towards the truth.  If you obey man, more often than not, you will discover their agenda doesn’t always have your best interest at heart as they profit at your expense.

The problem we have in discovering the truth to health is: western medicine will help you manage the just the symptoms and achieve only a temporary result.  On the other extreme, with naturopathic care you end up moving from one fad to the next because it is popular or seems appealing.  The problem with following the hype is, you end up wasting thousands of dollars on each and every method without seeing any long-term benefit.

As you come to follow the middle path, between western medicine and naturopathic remedies, you can begin to achieve results once you KNOW the protocols for health.  When you experience real health for the first time it becomes your solid foundation for life and you can NEVER be fooled again by any scam artist.  No doubt the majority of people will be critical towards you.  Nonetheless, no one can change your mind once you have known the truth.  Let them have their opinion.  These simple truths are self-evident.

Achieving results on the OJ fast are as follows:

  • 14 days gives you 5X more new red blood cells
  • 21 days will repair and regenerate all new organs
  • 40 days allows the skin to expel their hidden acids

FOUR STEPS: to authentic health

If you are going to be on a health program you should know the proper steps involved.  The first step is doing three liver flushes before you attempt the OJ fast.  This is done in two or three week increments.  Dr. Hulda Clark’s liver flush has been workable and seen to get repeated results.  She has been known to sell her brand of dewormer but MH’s dewormer is cheaper and superior on so many levels.  The protocol is to take the Dewormer every day for seven days.  Then on the last day you are ready to perform the liver flush.  Remember to lie on your left side and not your right as it is much gentler on your body and the flow of gallstones will improve.  If you fail to deworm for the full seven days prior to the liver flush you will NOT get results of removing any gallstones.  The recipe can be found here:  Liver Cleanse

One important tip while working with Dr. Clark’s Liver flush recipe is add lots and lots of extra honey to make the awful taste of epsom salts and grapefruit juice more palatable.

The second step one must do is purchase a good water-distiller.  Most are fairly cheap and run in the $100 – $150 dollar range.  This is so important for chelation purposes and shouldn’t be avoided because good water is needed on daily basis.  Having fresh water without it being tainted by chemicals or metals is of primary importance.  The negative criticism about drinking distilled water can be summed up that it leaches out minerals from the body and therefore we should avoid using it.  This is a myth and simply not true.  Only non-organic minerals are removed from your system which is what you want for good health to be restored.

The third step is to become thoroughly educated and research more and more until you actually gain some confidence to achieve health, wholeness and well-being.  The best place to start is reading MH’s 108 page book and Dr. William Howard Hay’s book Health via Food.  Back in the 1930s, Dr. Hay was a western doctor who became sick with dropsy.  It was an incurable condition at the time and he had no way out other than to do as he often advised his patients to ‘write out his will’.  Nonetheless, he was intelligent and resourceful enough to discover what the ancient monks would always resort to when ill – and that was fasting.  He tested everything out scientifically and afterwards developed the 14 day OJ fast protocol.  Later, he quit his ordinary job and set up a seminary where he was able to cure 60,000 cases over the course of his life.

The last step is, once you are fully confident, decide on doing either a 7, 14, or 21 day OJ fast.  Get ready to squeeze 8 oranges a day for the duration.  You are advised to eat 20 almonds a day so that your muscles don’t atrophy like Ghandi.  With the almonds in your system, you are given enough protein to repair your muscles.  At the very least, one is not bed-ridden and most everyone can continue with ordinary tasks and keep up their current work schedule.  Some went as far as including a weight lifting program or exercise routine.

MH would go on to tell us that there is a timeline when you can expect to see specific results:

  • 14 days will create NEW BLOOD
  • 21 days will give you a brand NEW HEART
  • 35 days will regenerate NEW SKIN
  • 40 days will rebuild you a NEW LIVER

On this type of fast you can drink all the distilled water that your body may need.  You can even add other liquids such as honey, maple syrup, and molasses to gain the necessary minerals your body needs to sustain and repair your body throughout the fast.

I find if your muscles become fatigued a tablespoon of honey will give you the strength you need.  If you are craving pizza then take a tablespoon of olive oil and that will do the trick.  If you begin craving chocolate then some spirulina or wheat grass will give you the b-vitamins to satisfy you until you come back into balance.

The Dr. Hay Rule while fasting is to have one bowel movement per day which is absolutely necessary or else toxemia will set in.

IMPORTANT: You need to decide on the daily enema or the herbal formula known as the LBB (lower bowel balance) to successfully complete any type of fast.  Either one will assist your body to move the toxins DOWN and OUT the toilet.

After the completion of an extended OJ fast you will be able to discern the BASIS of health that is right for you.  Now, whenever you are sick you can rely on a 3-day OJ fast and allow your body to remove the toxins the proper way – down and out your body.

Principles of health


MH, at the Ask Barefoot Herbalist forum, always says that few people are willing to self-experiment with herbs and juice fasting.  I would say it is even harder to discern properly what true health really is.  In 2005, following the Dr. Hay protocol, I completed the 21 day Orange Juice fast and lost a pound a day in the process.  It is no easy task to accomplish.  However, to complete such a fast is the only way to obtain a proper BASIS for what is healthy for the body and what is not.

Many years later I fell off the path and started eating meat again.  I got bored and didn’t even feel like drinking distilled water anymore so I decided to do the Wiley Brooks challenge.  The diet would consist of eating one McDonald’s quarter pounder with cheese and a large diet coke on a daily basis for seven days.  This was quite crazy to consider and I do NOT advise anyone to just do it.  But for me, it was a lesson in discernment through Crazy Wisdom.

The Buddha taught the middle path and it makes sense since being a raw foodist was one extreme and the other was eating meat every day.

Like many philosophers say, you have to follow the PRINCIPLES of life to obtain excellence.  Even Josh Waitzkin, the famous Chessmaster, is one of the rare few who can easily explain how to play chess properly by following the exact principles to it.  Likewise, when following the Buddha dharma one must know, understand, and observe the ethical principles (precepts) to achieve the proper results.

So when I did the Wiley Brooks diet, over time, I would come to discern the differences and similarities between these two health protocols.  Unfortunately, the hair growth and strong feeling while on his diet was not enough to produce any incredible long-term results.  Not to mention the harmful side effects such as the tightening up of the channels and drying up of the lymph nodes would eventually lead to kidney pain.  A short time later a full detox would get me back to normal.  The Wiley protocol was a dead-end.

But the real measure of health came later when taking MH’s 2010 Longevity Spices for Life.

The three signs that the body is rejuvenating properly are the skin becomes clearer, the hair grows in thicker and darker and the teeth become whiter.  This is very important to understand.

On the right path toward rejuvenating the body, the nails will begin to feel stronger and take on a clear sheen to them and will not look cloudy.  The hair will become thicker and filled with life-force and appear wet and not dry.  And lastly, the teeth will become pearly white and not look sickly yellow.

With this known, you have a tool to gauge where you are at.  You just need to study the PRINCIPLES of health in detail.  I advise anyone to start reading MH’s 108 Pages booklet and the Dr. Hay book, Health via Food to get started.

Understanding the way food combining works, advocated by Dr. Hay, is the correct PRINCIPLE for obtaining healthy blood and therefore a healthy body which is more alkaline in nature.  For some, food combining is one of the hardest things to maintain but the rewards are great.  Others have had problems keeping track of the rules so they are encouraged to follow a mono diet.

The mono diet is the surest way to get back to health without making any mistakes!  What is a mono diet?  You eat only one type of food per meal and eat as much of that as you want till you are full.

Your first meal may be a fruit such as strawberries and you eat all the strawberries your heart desires.  The next meal may be almonds and you can eat all the almonds you want till you get full.  The reason for getting back to basics this way is your body won’t turn acidic on a mono diet.  The stomach now has a chance to be restored to its original healthy state.  The fault of incorrect food combination is: when you combine protein and carbs your stomach turns acidic.  This in turn, causes the lymph nodes to activate and the toxins go up and out the head rather than down and out the body in the correct way.  Since the stomach is overwhelmed and can’t handle the excess acids to digest foods properly… weight-gain and disease settles in.

So, the first step is researching the PRINCIPLES to good health.  Next, learn the proper rules to food combining.  Then, get educated on why juice fasting is important to rid yourself of environmental toxins from the air we breathe and the harmful chemicals and metals we have ingested over the years.

Once you accomplish a juice fast – whether it is for 7 days or 14 days this alone will help you discern the BASIS of what is normal health for you and nobody else.

Others have gone on to accomplish 21, 40 and even 108 days with ease because it is not a strict water fast that leaves your muscles atrophied.  The almonds eaten on the fast supply the body with enough protein so the muscles get what they need.  Lastly, find a middle path that works for you.  Even if that means on occasion you eat meat or junk food, now you have a suitable method to get back on track.  If you get sick…a three day OJ fast is part of your tool-bag to achieve health quickly.

The body is specially designed.  When you live by the laws of nature you experience health much faster than if you go against nature.  As you live in harmony with Nature you will begin to see how strong, resilient and efficient the body works.  These are the inner workings of true health that people have forgotten to pass down from one generation to the next.

Others suggest that this information has been suppressed time and time again.  Of course, one shouldn’t place too much importance on the body in exclusion to mind and energy work.  But when you master the body, it is much easier to forget about it and focus on the more important task at hand – enlightenment itself.

Juice fasting


It has been about seven years since MH, the Master Herbalist, first began discussing his principles of health on the CureZone forum.  Many times, he has mentioned he would possibly phase out his Ask Barefoot Herbalist Forum.  Therefore, I thought it would be essential to gather information here so that others could gain access to his archived posts.  There is a lot of valuable health remedies there and he still responds to questions every day in the public forum.

He even creates his own herbs the Dr. Christopher way – the proper way it was originally intended without fillers and cheating the public.  He also has invented many of his own herbal formulas that obey nature and seek to stimulate healing.

While juice fasting, your nervous system and digestion can take a break and have a chance to heal properly. When I did my 21 day juice-fast I slept only about 4 to 5 hours a night, lost a pound a day, and when I was working in the classroom there was no entropy coming from my students.  That means none of their emotional reactions could affect me. Their energy of neediness and anger and so forth would literally go right through me.

When the body’s karma is taken care of through this Juice Fast it clears the way for deep introspective work such as meditation.

Even Dr. Paul C. Bragg, in one of his books, reported actually seeing evidence of himself expelling quicksilver (mercury) in his stool while fasting.  That in itself is quite amazing.  But, to become an experienced faster, the first thing you need to do is gather the right information.  They say that “knowledge is power” and you have to work hard at unlearning all the false information that has been imposed on you from society.  As the Master Herbalist succinctly puts it:

“Humans die from having 900x too much calcium rock in their body that makes them shrink and turn HARD.  IF we die when we reach 900x too much calcium, then fasting properly extends your life, that SIMPLE.” — MH

This juice fast is taken from a very important pioneer in the medical field named Dr. William Howard Hay.  In the early 1920s, the doctor himself became severely ill with a condition known as dropsy.  He had no way to heal himself as it was considered an incurable condition.  The only recourse he had, was by taking immediate action by fasting to cure himself completely on his own.  After he regained his health, he quit his medical job and set up a seminary where he could really benefit others.  This was a place where others could experience the same results by eating raw foods and juice-fasting.

The reason the Juice Fast is recommended over a water-fast is that your muscles won’t fatigue or atrophy like Gandhi’s body did; because you are eating 20 almonds a day for protein.

I recommend that you download Dr. Hay’s book here called: Health via Food.  It will be a real eye-opener once you read it.  He had a cure rate of a 100 percent as long as they followed his nutrition protocol.  He assisted 60,000 people with various sicknesses ranging from mental illness and emotional problems as well as the deep physical cancers and tumors.  Once I heard about this, I literally spent four months on the Barefoot Herbalist’s Forum reading about six or seven hours a night!  I needed to find out the truth of these health principles in order to prepare myself properly for an extended fast.

The steps:

The School of Self-Applied Prevention is the Master Herbalist’s new website.  This is a great place to read, research and watch videos.  If you are serious about health, then these steps are required for regaining optimal health:

  1. Read and research what MH suggests for getting back to health.
  2. Invest in buying yourself a good water distiller.
  3. Begin taking the LBB (lower bowel balance) herbs to exercise the colon and move impurities down and out.
  4. Prepare yourself for doing 3 good liver flushes following the Dr. Hulda Clark’s recipe.
  5. Deworm and remove candida/parasites for 30 days straight with MH’s dewormer.

After that, you are ready to do a juice-fast which can be for 3 or 7 days for the beginner.  Most have gone on to do a 14 day juice-fast with no problems at all.  The intermediate and advanced practitioners have accomplished 21 or 40 days worth of juice-fasting respectively.  Natural orange juice itself will supply you with plenty of minerals when it is freshly squeezed.  MH says these are some of the benefits of juice fasting:

IN MY OPINION, A 40 DAY ONE GIVES YOU NEW ORGANS, INCLUDING YOUR SKIN, WHICH IS YOUR LARGEST ORGAN…PROVIDING YOU DO IT CORRECTLY….THE 21 DAY NEW HEART IS MEDICALLY RECORDED AS TEACHED IN THE SCHOOL FOLDER ON MY WEBSITE USING THE ORIGINAL MEDICAL WRITTEN BOOKS.” — MH

Distilled water:

Some observations I made when drinking distilled water is that, surprisingly, you can drink more of it than you ever thought possible.  You just can’t do that when drinking regular spring water.  You’ll soon notice that your body was dehydrated for so long and wonder why you drank anything else.  Some people are told that you should avoid distilled water because it leaches the beneficial minerals from your body but this is a big misconception.  The truth is that it naturally chelates (removes) only the non-organic minerals stored in your cells.

To determine the benefits of distilled water can be known either through self-experimentation or scientifically.  Either way, the cause of much confusion here is the result of using the wrong litmus test.  The paper PH strips should NOT be used to determine the acid/alkaline state of the water.  This way to determine the purity of water is always going to be inaccurate.  The correct way to determine the PH of distilled water is by using the liquid PH test kit.  If you use the paper litmus strips you will get the wrong reading every time.

Herbs:

The first herbal product that is absolute necessary is the Lower Bowel Balance (LBB) to repair your colon and MOVE the toxins down and out.  The other is optional because it has garlic and is not for everybody.  It is called the 2010 Longevity Spices.  The great thing with the Longevity Spices is you will begin to notice an effortless willpower developing for curbing your ravenous appetite for wrong foods.  You’ll get out of the bad habit of indulging in the bad foods you always wanted to give up but just couldn’t on your own.

The protocol:

The main herb that will assist your body in creating HEAT and CIRCULATION is called the Lower Bowel Balance (LBB).  This formula is key for regaining health for a number of reasons.  When you improve the digestive flow downward and out the toxins such as heavy metals and lactic acid (acidic buildup) can move out the elimination organs easily and successfully.  Furthermore, the overflow of candida and parasites can flush out easily with the assistance of this unique herbal formula.

Without the LBB the dreaded Herxheimer reaction happens to most of us.  This means the rapid die-off of the candida causes excessive irritability and then unusual hunger pangs.  This would lead to binging on the foods that contributed to the over-growth of the fungus or yeast in the first place.

It is important to know that without the LBB you will have to take a daily enema each day you fast.  Most would rather take the herb.  Either way one must know the following protocol to ensure safety and results:

The Dr. Hay Rule while fasting is knowing that one bowel movement per day is absolutely NECESSARY or else it is dangerous as toxemia will set in.

So, get educated first before attempting a serious fast and try to avoid all water fasts – as they can be the most dangerous without real guidance, self-confidence and spiritual integrity.  Always research it well, ask questions, and consult your physician if you are concerned about your current health.

Tibetan Medicine and Spice 4 Life


In these degenerate times, it is easy to see that our diet is getting worse and worse every year.  In America, it is clearly evident we are getting heavier; while mental and emotional disease is on the rise.  To stay ahead of the game, one must look to the causes and conditions of these problems and know exactly what method is a suitable antidote.  Whether you practice hatha yoga, vipashana meditation, or pranayama it is wise to know the root cause of physical disease and the proper method to get back to basic health and well-being.

There is a unique Master Herbalist who calls himself MH.  He has created one serious formula called the Spice 4 Life with the more advanced formula called the 2010 Longevity Spices that I have been self-experimenting with.  When you take a tablespoon of this by mouth you can sense immediately that:

  • it cleanses the lymph nodes
  • and infuses the whole body with the nutrients

Within as little as three to five days you can directly see the results that the hair and nails are revitalizing and getting stronger.  MH states that:

“Cancers and all diseases most likely ALL START when the stomach fails, I have read many times the kidneys fail first, but ODDS are the kidneys failed first because the STOMACH was adding acids to the body that over whelmed the kidney function.

The Japanese method of an herb drank after each meal with allot of water to expand the stomach in an attempt to revitalize it propably was not a popular idea, but according to the author, a MD, he claimed he could cure all the cancers, etc.

I also found this author mentioned in the Dr. John R. Christopher informational CD of papers never put in book form by Dr. Christopher and the ONLY proof I have ever had that it works is the Theory behind the Amish Healers Formula I call Spice 4 Life or what I have ended up with that I call Longevity Spices. The Amish Healer having the patient drink a large amount of water after each meal with a spice formula that it’s base is the herb that was used by the old Japanese MD.

“IS” it “WISE” to try to restore your health this method? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a method for those who “REFUSE” to eat correctly and would otherwise eat them selves to an early grave; it is a desperate option and this is exactly the history behind the Amish Healers theory of using such a thing. The Japanese MD never wrote anything about correct eating, etc.; he was a true believer in the herb GARLIC and even built a machine that sprayed garlic juice all over your body as a cure for all diseases, etc.”

One has to admit that this is a very interesting theory.  After self-experimenting with his formula, I did some research on what the dharma had to say about health.  In one of my favorite books, “Sky Dancer: The Secret Life and Songs of the Lady Yeshe Tsogyel” I came across a relevant passage.  It says:

“The nutrition extracted from food in the stomach passes through the “vein which seizes the distilled essence” to the liver, where it is assimilated by bile, phlegm and air (the three humours). Refined nutrition forms blood, and refined blood forms flesh while the unrefined blood forms bile.” ~ p. 248

There may be a connection between what Tibetan Medicine has discovered a long time ago and what MH is presenting today.  From a physical point of view, the stomach must heal first before one can experience proper regeneration happening before their very eyes.

There are two ways to get back to health – one homeopathic and the other abiding by nature.  Homeopathy goes against nature.  However, without first “obeying nature” it is rather difficult to know what your natural health-state really feels like.

Since the physical body is just a vessel for our spiritual development it makes sense to master it in order to have a body that functions efficiently.  With the right attitude we won’t get carried away into a sort of spiritual materialism.  Therefore, we don’t want to overdo these herbs and cleanses by grasping at the needs of the body in exclusion to enlightenment.  Nonetheless, it is still beneficial to learn to handle the body in such a way that it doesn’t become an obstacle to our practice.

The order of importance:

  1. Energy-work (ie. reiki and chi-kung) yields much quicker results than physical work alone.
  2. Mind training (shamatha) is more important than the body and energy-work alone.
  3. Advanced contemplation (vipashana) is what leads to a lasting and permanent happiness – enlightenment.

In the end, it is best to lead a simple life free from self-grasping to this physical body.  Therefore, in order to go beyond the dependency for herbs one must know what the Buddhist dharma equivalent is in relation to regenerating the body.  Under the guidance of a qualified teacher one can learn the breathwork and the proper method for this advanced type of training.  You are simply moving from outer yoga (fasting and herbs) to inner yoga (tummo-fire) practice.

If you are fortunate enough to undertake initiation and learn the yoga of inner heat (Tibetan Tummo) you have the opportunity to take care of the body with skillful means.  It will definitely strengthen the whole nervous system with single pointed concentration.  This way you are “killing two birds with one stone” by keeping the body fit as well as having a practice that progresses towards enlightenment.  I hope this inspires some people to look into this and achieve complete success on their spiritual journey.

With that said, I would encourage you to start learning what MH is doing and discover the two most important holistic doctors of the previous century: Dr. Hay and Dr. Christopher.  Even though MH gets criticized by many proud, educated people he has many PEARLS OF WISDOM to share that you will find useful.  Since he always talks about how the number 108 magically appears in his life, he seems to be inspired and guided by the Medicine Buddha himself.  He has a forum at the CureZone called: ‘Ask Barefoot Herbalist’ linked below:
