Rebuilding Neural Pathways

A seven-year-old Argentine boy, Ivo Cardile, has defied doctors’ predictions that he would never walk again.  Jorge Cardile was told by these doctors that his son wouldn’t be able to walk because he had suffered permanent brain damage upon being born.  The father decided to take matters into his own hands.  Since he is a mechanic he was good at building cars and fixing problems.  Jorge invented a homemade rehabilitation device for his son to train his body to walk.  This machine has proven successful and his disabled son now walks fairly well.

Unfortunately, the BBC removed this video from Youtube due to copy-write laws.  Here I found another webpage that has it still intact.  If you are patient to wait through the advertisement this short 2 minute video is very inspiring.  You can view his video here: Father’s Homemade Machine

Update: I just found a video on Youtube here: Machine helps son walk

There are so many types of conditions that are believed to be incurable.  These neurological diseases affect the brain, spinal cord and nerves.  The symptoms include paralysis, muscle weakness, poor coordination, seizure, altered states of consciousness and pain.

When we hear this success story about Ivo Cardile, our minds can begin to accept the possible what was previously considered impossible.

There are many forms of neurological disorder such as Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s disease, Dystonia, Muscular dystrophy (MD), Multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke and autism.  The following are some of the correct principles to help us understand exactly how Jorge Cardile would have achieved results for his son.

The Feldenkrais Method:

“The Feldenkrais Method works by facilitating the formation of new neural connections and patterns, irrespective of the cause of the child’s limitations. New and effective patterns of movement, thought, and feeling are learnt.”
The Anat Baniel method:

“Movement and Awareness are the main tools utilized for communicating with the brain, providing information the brain requires in order to form missing neural patterns.”

MH, the Barefoot Herbalist, says:
“Keep in mind stitches, drugs and numbing fluids and every form of commercial pain killer, over counter and drug, ALL have a long term effect and often permanent damage done on the operating table…and when it can’t, because of lack of proper minerals/foods and poisoned…some authors have suggested the results can be cancer.  But, that makes ZERO difference to your original design, that never stops trying to rebuild your body ‘perfect’.”

When the proper conditions are present (such as movement therapy) the body will begin to heal and regenerate itself.  Even juice fasting, which removes the negative conditions (associated with disease) is a suitable method for healing.

If someone like Ivo Cardile wanted to walk with more refinement, then these further exercises would be of tremendous help.  On a deeper level, the following healing modalities are the conditions that are often lacking in a complete recovery.

Base Therapies:  This is required so that your mind-stream can obtain a full upgrade, clear past-life issues, and repair the nerve damage in a deeper way.

  1. Reiki Tummo attunement
  2. Barbara Brennan School of Healing
  3. Feldenkrais movement therapy

Self-Therapies:  Each one can be practiced on its own for a year or more before moving on to the next and more difficult exercise.

  1. Chi-Lel Chi-Kung (LCUPCD) – strongest for adjusting the spine
  2. Fragrant Chi Kung – strongest for ‘massaging’ the central channel
  3. Chinese Health Balls – strongest for resonating the spine and tailbone

Degrees of trauma: The theory is that each person can receive healing and regenerate their nervous system no matter how much damage there is.

  1. autistic – work with the Hand Xtrainer since the Chinese health balls are most likely too hard to manipulate*
  2. paraplegic – could use the Chinese health balls
  3. quadriplegic – could utilize Dr. Bates eye exercises such as the Moon Swing
  4. Seeing impaired (blind) – listen to the Centerpointe Research binaural therapy (audio CD)

*When the patient’s motor skills are not fully developed then the Hand Xtrainer would be my choice before utilizing the more advanced Chinese Health balls. The Thera-Band Hand Xtrainer can be purchased here: Thera-Band purchase

Another video that is worth watching is an inspirational story about a baby girl who was born without a third of her cerebellum.  She was given a hopeless prognosis by medical doctors that she would never walk or talk again.  Now, twenty years later, the young woman can walk and she enjoys a nearly normal life.  She can even talk and is a college student winning academic honors.

She and her family attribute her amazing recovery to Feldenkrais, a unique therapy developed in Israel and based on the belief that the body can actually teach the brain.  This seven minute video will give you more information about how the therapy actually works:

The Mahaparinirvana sutra

For those disciples, whose Buddhist Master has past into parinirvana in recent years, the Mahaparinirvana sutra would be a wise thing to study in depth.  The following are just a few of the rare gems discovered in this text.

On the preciousness of this sutra:

“Also, next, O good man!  Of all lights, the light of the sun and the moon is unsurpassed.  No other lights are their equal.  The same with the light of Great Nirvana, which is the most wonderful of all the lights of the sutras and samadhis.  It is one which cannot be reached by any of the lights of any of the sutras and samadhis.  Why not?  Because the light of Great Nirvana thoroughly gets into the pores of the skin.  Though beings may not possess Bodhichitta, it yet causes Bodhi.  That is why we say “Mahaparinirvana.”

It wasn’t easy for me to find the completed translation of this sutra.  But I recently was delighted to discover the whole sutra with 46 chapters online.  Click here to read the whole sutra:  Nirvana Sutra

On the Buddha-Nature:

“Also, next, O good man!  There are two kinds of original abode of birth and death.  The one is ignorance, and the other is clinging to what exists. In between [these] two are the sufferings of birth, old age, illness and death.  We call this the Middle Path.  This Middle Path well destroys birth and death.  That is why we say “Middle”.

That is why we call the teaching of the Middle Path the Buddha-Nature.  Therefore, the Buddha-Nature is the Eternal, Bliss, the Self, and the Pure.  All beings do not see this.  Hence there is [for them] no Eternity, no Bliss, no Self, and no Purity.  The Buddha-Nature is not non-Eternal, not non-Bliss, not non-Self, and not non-Purity.”

What the Buddha-Nature is specifically:

“O good man!  It is as when one cannot see the first moon.  And yet, one cannot say that there is no moon.  The same is the case with the Buddha Nature.  All beings may not [be able to] see it, yet we cannot say that there is no Buddha-Nature.

“O good man!  The Buddha-Nature is none other than the ten powers (1), the four fearlessnesses (2), Great Compassion, and the three thinkings (3).”

The deepest meditative absorption:

“Also, next, O good man!  “The Buddha-Nature is the Suramgama Samadhi “[deepest state of meditative absorption]“.  Its nature is like sarpirmanda “[most delicious and efficacious of all milk-medicines].”  It is the mother to all Buddhas.  By dint of the power of the Suramgama Samadhi, all Buddhas gain the Eternal, Bliss, the Self, and the Pure”  All beings possess the Suramgama Samadhi.  Not practicing, they cannot see it.  Hence, [there is then] no gaining of unsurpassed Enlightenment.

O good man!  The Suramgama Samadhi has five names, which are: 1) suramgama samadhi, 2) prajnaparamita [transcendent Wisdom], 3) diamond samadhi, 4) lion’s roar samadhi, 5) Buddha-Nature.

According to the part it takes, it has various names.  O good man! Just as a single samadhi gains various names, such as in [connection with] dhyana we say “four dhyanas” ["catvari-dhyanani"], in element “samadhi element”, in power “samadhi power”, in element “samadhi element” [sic], in rightness “right meditation”, and in the eight awakened minds of a great man “right meditation”.  So does it obtain with the Suramgama Samadhi.”

DEFINITIONS:

1. Four Fearlessnesses.  Only a Buddha has (1) fearlessness because knowledge of all knowledge has been acquired; (2) fearlessness because all afflictions have been eradicated; (3) fearlessness in explaining hindrances that obstruct one’s realization of bodhi; and (4) fearlessness in explaining the right path to end one’s suffering.

2. Ten Powers (daśa-bala).  Only a Buddha has perfect knowledge of (1) the right or wrong in every situation and its corresponding karmic consequences; (2) the karmic requitals of every sentient being in the past, present, and future; (3) all stages of dhyāna and samādhi; (4) the capacity and future attainment of every sentient being; (5) the desires and inclinations of every sentient being; (6) the nature and condition of every sentient being; (7) the consequences of all actions with or without afflictions; (8) all past lives of every sentient being and their karmic reasons; (9) all future rebirths of every sentient being and their karmic reasons; and (10) the permanent termination of all afflictions and habits upon attainment of Buddhahood.

3. Three thinkings or The Threefold Mindfulness of Equality means that a Buddha’s mind abides in equality toward (1) those who listen to the Dharma reverently, (2) those who listen to the Dharma irreverently, and (3) these two groups.

Chinese Health Balls

These Chinese health balls, officially called Baoding balls are also referred to as Chinese Exercise Balls, Chinese Therapy Balls, or Chinese Stress Balls.  In other parts of the world they are called Shou-xing or Balls of Eternal Health.  These health balls are believed to have originated in Baoding, China – a small town in the Heibei province during the reign of the Ming Dynasty.

Baoding balls are usually used for exercise and meditation, but are also good when employed for medical reasons.  The movement will stimulate acupressure points in the hands.

To use them for exercise, place two Baoding balls within your palm and rotate them clockwise or counterclockwise.  Whatever feels comfortable.  Gravity will help you keep on controlling the balls.  There are many exercises possible.  The more advanced users try not to let the balls touch one another during manipulation.

The Emperor Kwan Long of the Ching Dynasty, who reigned from 1736-1796, was advised by his physician to exercise with the balls every day.  He lived to the ripe old age of eighty-nine. His physician only lived to the age of eighty-four.

Three levels of healing:

Every so often my neck will give me a little trouble as the spine is out of alignment and the nerves get pinched.  As I spun the Health Balls in my hand, it would be only three or four minutes after which I placed them down before I got tired.  Then on the third day I really sat down to discover how deep these things could be used as a healing device.  I sat for twenty minutes rotating the balls in my right hand clockwise.  I noticed three stages of deeper healing within my nervous system.

  1. The neck is always adjusted first and then the governor channel opens lower down your back
  2. The functional channel begins to open and then the navel itself activates
  3. Lastly, the crown begins to rotate in a small circle and then the eyes begin to vibrate

As I walked away, there was a different feeling in my ankles.  This indicated that the channels did open up all the way down through the legs.  Interestingly, at the fifteen to twenty-minute mark the energy seemed to shift from the navel inwards toward the center of the body.  Just slightly, I have smelled a good fragrance.  I’m excited to continue practicing to discover more about these additional effects.

Decide which balls to purchase:

In the beginning, walnuts were used for hand training.  You could even do the movements without anything in your palm and notice an effect.  The balls that have bells in them are fine but could get irritating if you appreciate silence.  I prefer the ones made out of gemstone or the solid boading balls.

I chose the white stone.  A slightly smaller size is easier to manipulate.  They have a cooling effect which is nice since you will build up some warmth which the balls will absorb.

The heat and circulation that develops with this practice follow the right principles of obtaining good and proper health.  So I thought it would be good to share this therapy with others who might be suffering.

Get into a routine:

Set up a routine for yourself.  Decide to practice daily for 5, 10 or 20 minutes at a time.  Then work at it for a few months and see how your body changes.  I wouldn’t exceed more than two sessions a day.  Drink a glass of water after the session to cleanse your body.

If you have core issues that you are working on due to a specific traumatic incident then go lightly with this practice.  The nervous system is very delicate and it needs proper time to adjust to the new movements.  It would be an excellent idea to work seven days in a row and then take three to five days off.  Since the exercise is quite powerful it could make you too introverted and moody.

If there is too much pain and uncomfortable feelings surface – STOP practice. And don’t mix this practice with other things for a limited time.  The reason is you won’t be able to discern which practice is giving you health benefits or problems.

Therefore pay attention to your body’s need to heal and adjust with a thorough rest period.  I found that after seven days of continuous practice, you need at least two to three days rest so that you can calm down and return to a natural state of mind.  Keep resting till your attention is off the body and you smile and extrovert.  Then pick up the practice again for seven days and rest for three more days.  Repeat this routine as needed or desired.

Beyond twenty minutes:

The second session of the day I intended to go past the twenty minute mark.  After many months of use I never pushed myself this far.  As I rotated these balls in my palm, I kept feeling interesting changes occur within my body.  I decided to do up to thirty minutes total just to see what other benefits would come through this practice.

At the twenty-three minute mark a cool yin energy would be felt emanating out of my navel and last for the remaining seven minutes of the practice!

I rotated these boading balls clockwise (without them touching each other) and got this wonderful cooling effect.  I suspect if they are rotated counter-clockwise I would feel a warming effect.  After this session I felt light and had a certain “spring” to my step.  To top it off, I even had a nice rosy complexion.

Remember: this little exercise is a serious chi-kung practice and will work muscles and nerves you never used before so be mindful to give yourself enough rest in between sessions.  Don’t overdo it!

NOTE: sit low on the floor with a rug or on the couch in case you drop them.  They will break or scratch if you are not mindful of this.

The Buddhist Enumerations

The Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism: It’s Fundamentals & History by Dudjom Rinpoche is a must have for serious scholars or practitioners within Tibetan Buddhism.

It is two volumes combined into one book.  The first is the Fundamentals of the Nyingma School and the second is the History of the Nyingma School.  This is where you can find detailed accounts of lineage information and hagiographies of some important and wonderful masters.

One of the most useful parts within the book is the numerical categorization of Buddhism in general.  It sports 181 pages just for this section of the Glossary of Enumerations.  It progress from the two accomplishments all the way up to 6,400,000 verses of the great perfection teachings.

Here are some samples:

  • two accomplishments
  • two Buddha bodies
  • two truths
  • two kinds of selflessness
  • three kinds of discriminating awareness
  • three kinds of mandala
  • three uncompounded entities
  • four essential recollections
  • four eternalistic schools
  • four extremes
  • four fearlessness
  • four great modes of liberation
  • four guardian kings
  • four kinds of birthplace
  • four kinds of desire
  • four great axioms of madhyamaka
  • four perverted views
  • five buddha families
  • ten powers
  • ten sciences
  • twelve modes of dependent origination
  • seventeen form realms
  • eighteen distinct attributes of the Buddhas
  • eighteen schools
  • twenty-four pure lands
  • fifty-one mental events
  • eighty minor marks of a buddha
  • one hundred treasure-finders
  • two hundred and fifty disciplines of the vinaya
  • 21,000 kinds of desire, hatred, and delusion
  • 84,000 doctrines of the vehicles
  • 6,400,000 verses of the natural great perfection

Ascension of the masters:

One of the most intriguing categories is how a highly realized master dies in Tibetan Buddhism.  It is important to note that this is only explained in Vajrayana Buddhism.

This account has caused other faiths to investigate the dharma to determine the validity of Christ’s ascension into the sky.

Four ways of death:

  1. dissolving into space
  2. cremation
  3. death in the manner of an awareness holder
  4. celestial flight

Described respectively as follows: (1) the body and mind dissolve in the emptiness of the buddha-body of reality, (2) as the space within and without a vase merge when the vase breaks, (3) one passes away like a fire with no more fuel, space is filled with light and one dies like an awareness holder, (4) even though one dies, one need not relinquish the body and so one dies as a sky-farer

The feminine principle

Such books as Masters of Mahamudra by Keith Dowman explain how most male yogins were initiated into the wrathful world of the dakini.  After their encounter with the wisdom dakini their lives were forever changed.

In Tibetan Buddhism, Mahamudra represents a perfected level of meditative realization. It is the inseparable union of wisdom and compassion or emptiness and skillful means.

In the book above, these eight-four masters, accomplished their practice in India where they lived between the eighth and twelfth centuries. Leading unconventional lives, the siddhas include some of the greatest Buddhist teachers as Tilopa, Naropa and Saraha.

One of my favorite mahasiddhas was Saraha.  His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche (1904-1987) was believed to be an emanation of Saraha.

Saraha was a great sage and learned Brahmin who knew and understood all the holy scriptures.

One day he went to the market and met there a simple woman who had no education. She was an arrowsmith woman. The arrowsmith woman looked him directly in the eye, pointed an arrow at him and said:

“Your knowledge means nothing. To find the truth, you have to leave all your books behind, and follow me.”

Saraha left everything behind and followed the arrowsmith woman. She taught him the ways of wisdom outside Varanasi, the city in India where bodies get cremated. Saraha and the arrowsmith women set up a tent here and became the greatest Tantric masters of India.

Healing burns

I remember when I was an adolescent reading a fictional book about a Formula One race car driver who got into an accident and experienced severe third-degree burns all over his face.  A Native American Indian offered him a salve that completely healed his face so he didn’t have permanent scarring.  After some time went by, the driver became so overjoyed that it worked without leaving a mark.  Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried, he was never able to track down the Medicine Man.  At that moment, I wished we had that healing ointment.

Then 20+ years later I got to know MH, the Master Herbalist.  On the Ask Barefoot Herbalist forum I learned about his old-fashioned wisdom, applied it, and discovered that there actually is hope.

There is a product called ‘B&W OINTMENT’ that can be applied on any burns, scars, or injuries for healing to take place.  In my own experience I have had some promising results.  Even though it is a slow process, one scar I have within my left eye-brow has almost completely faded away after a years time.  The one small burn I have on my ankle is now beginning to fade after six months.

In both cases I was not consistent in applying the ointment on a daily basis.  I know it is hard for most of us to stop wishing for instant results.  But sure enough, a slow process is the sure and steady way to heal without having to worry about negative side-effects.

MH says: “When cut, I use powdered cayenne, this prevents the scar.  Once scarred, I use BF&C as explained on the my teacher web page.  It can be applied as B&W ointment and taken as capsule or tea.  To get rid of a old scar may take a year or so.  A scar comes from incomplete healing.  “IF” we have enough nutrients and good enough circulation, there will be no scar.”

It is an exciting thing to marvel at the power of nature’s way to heal and regenerate our bodies no matter how long it took to achieve this level of result.  If you get in good with MH you’ll discover lots of natural wisdom.  MH relates a story how an Amish Healer has literally helped thousands of burn victims over the past 35 years:

“He has been going across country teaching groups of people how to treat burns at home and to recognize when the burn is too severe and must be moved to the hospitals.  He has been working with doctors and trying to change the way American Hospitals treat burn victims.  Being only one man and extremely limited funds, he has done what he has been able.  BOOK V is a record of his works and much will be added when time allows.”

Since MH is basically a pioneer in the alternative health field, it makes me worried that without him, generations to come will lose out on his valuable work.  If nothing is done, the powers that be will overrule and more suffering will ensue for us, our children, and future generations.

My wish is that other good Samaritans or Bodhisattvas (compassionate individuals) can understand what he is doing, discover the correct principles of health, and establish healing centers all over the world for the benefit of everyone.

TIPS for quicker results:

  1. apply a thick layer of the B+W ointment under a gauze pad twice a day,
  2. take several BF+C capsules orally to help regenerate the flesh
  3. taking the LBB (lower bowel balance) formula moves toxins out the elimination organs which includes the skin
  4. Herbal spray I, II, or III brings heat to the area which moves your blood to the surface of the skin quickly for healing to take place

UPDATE:

MH says, “The Amish Clinic makes the best burn salve in the USA.  You take a leaf and apply the salve to the leaf and then apply to the burn and that burn can be to the bone, it can not be too bad.  The leaves used are Burdock, if that is not available, they use lettuce or cabbage.”

Does covering the ointment completely with scalded burdock leaves reduce the amount of healing time for burns?  I haven’t any experience with it.  Maybe someone who has more experience and results can post a comment.  I would love to know.

Good luck in healing!
