King Trisong Detsen

Today, the Jnanasukha March issue of the Dakini Day news had an interesting article on one of the great dharma kings of Tibet.  This was a very interesting biography to read:

The second of the three most famous Dharma Kings was Trisong Detsen.  In fulfillment of a prophecy, King Trisong Detsen (790-844) ascended to the throne at the age of thirteen, four generations after Songtsen Gampo.

Across the board, he is recognized as the monolithic force that established Buddhism as the state religion of Tibet.  Traditionally, this achievement is linked to his partnership with Shantarakshita and Padmasambhava,  such that the three are referred to as khen lob cho sum — the Scholar Shantarakshita, the Dharma Master Padmasambhava, and the Dharma King Trisong Detsen.

There are Dunhuang manuscripts which recount the glory of King Trisong Detsen’s activities in establishing the complete traditions of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism in Tibet.

King Trisong Detsen’s mother was Chinese.  Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal was one of his five wives.  He had three sons who were devoted to Padmasambhava and one daughter, Pema Sel, who was restored to life at the age of eight by Padmasambhava, who entrusted her with the Great Perfection cycle of Khandro Nyingthik.  She later incarnated as Terton Pema Ledreltsal (13th century), Longchenpa (14th century), and Terton Padma Lingpa (15th century).

In pursuit of his spiritual intentions, the King sought out many Buddhist teachers in China, Nepal, and India.  Most notably, at age twenty, he sent Jnanakumara to fetch Shantarakshita (aka Khenpo Bodhisattva), the abbot of Nalanda, and to bring back the heisted Shakyamuni statue.  When he tried to build a great temple like Odantapura in India, he met with heavy opposition from Bon practitioners, his ministers, and one his own wives.  The spirits of Tibet were also very displeased and to retard any progress in the construction of Samye, they embarked on a campaign of daily natural disasters such as disease, floods, storms, famines.

On Shantarakshita’s recommendation, the King sent five envoys to escort Padmasambhava, the Oddiyana vidyadhara, to central Tibet to deal with the disruptive situation.  According to His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, Padmasambhava came to Tibet in the Iron Tiger Year of 810.  Some say he was already 1,000 years old.  In any case, Padmasambhava subdued the spirits and bound them to serve the Buddhist doctrine and its followers.  As a result, the great temple of Samye, Sublime Palace of Inconceivable Self-Manifestation, was completed in five years.  It is said that during the consecration of Samye, the statues walked around discussing the Dharma!

Thereafter, using his wealth and power, King Trisong Detsen proceeded to systematically institutionalize Buddhism.  At Samye, he hosted the famous several year-long debate between Indian and Chinese Buddhism, after which he declared Indian Buddhism to be the official religion of Tibet (792).  He requested Shantarakshita to conduct the first monastic ordination ceremonies for monks and nuns.  He gathered exceptional translators such as Vairotsana, Kawa Paltsek, Chokro Lui Gyaltsen, and others to translate both sutra and mantra teachings from Sanskrit into Tibetan.  He brought a hundred and eight great Indian scholars, such as Vimalamitra and Buddhaguhya, to Tibet.  He sent others to India to receive and bring back teachings from great masters such as Shri Singha and Humkara.

He himself requested Padmasambhava to bestow the first tantric empowerment in the caves of Chimphu above Samye.  The King was the only one of Guru Rinpoche’s twenty-five mahasiddha disciples who did not attain the rainbow body.  However, he composed Dharma texts and is known for his mastery of Chemchok Heruka.

On a mundane level, he made his country prosperous and, through military exploits, he made Tibet into a superpower.  Through a treaty with the Chinese, he obtained the Lake Kokonor region (Amdo).  He ruled Kashmir, formed an alliance with Siam, and tried to expand westward into Arab lands.  In Lhasa, there is a pillar that pays homage to his military glory.

His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche said, with tears in his eyes, that:

“If one were to fill every canyon, every gorge, every hole on earth with gold as high as Mount Meru, not even a fraction of the kindness of King Trisong Detsen could be repaid!”

His death was predicted by Vairotsana whom the King, under pressure from his xenophobic ministers, had, at one time, banished from central Tibet.  Among his rebirths are Nyang Rel Nyima Ozer, Guru Chowang, Jigme Lingpa, and Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo.  He is considered an emanation of Manjushri.

proper prenatal care

There are some important issues you need to know if you plan on raising a family.  More women need to raise their awareness that having a baby is an offering to that conscious being.  They are our precious future.  First and foremost, they come into the world in order to grow and develop their personality in all sorts of ways.  Second, you can provide them the chance to accumulate more virtue and insight spiritually.

The proper attitude to have, is knowing that this baby is a sovereign individual with the right to proper health.  These days it is rare that a baby will be born safely – free from toxic metals, chemicals or birth trauma.  For me, the saddest thing to see is the alarming rise in the number of autistic children being born.

A new study suggests about 1 in 38 children have traits of autism, higher than a previous U.S. estimate of 1 in 100.

In the past, holding the Hippocratic Oath once had honor and integrity for doctors who would “First, do no harm”.  Only now are things changing and some doctors are admitting that vaccines do damage.  Pediatricians call it vaccine injury.  Of course, not all doctors are bad people.  They want to help, but without proper foresight it is hard to tell what is best until it is too late.  Unfortunately, change happens slowly.

One group of women that I really think are doing some great benefit for society is: The Thinking Moms Revolution.  They are turning heads by looking out for the welfare of other new moms.  I like this one quote by Lujene G. Clark that sums up their intention strongly:

“If I didn’t warn you of the dangers of vaccines, I couldn’t live with the guilt if your child becomes vaccine injured.  Can you live with the guilt if it happens and you didn’t listen?”

First Decision:

If you are planning on having a child it would be wise to compare and view these two births.  The first video is a normal Medical birth that on the surface seems fine.  However, to a highly trained eye is too invasive for the delicate baby’s body and nervous system to handle.

The second video is a Natural Water birth which is only a five minutes long.  It will evoke your emotions and sure to make you teary-eyed since we never realized that birthing could be so beautiful.

Televised births, portrayed by the entertainment media, have really conditioned our minds to fear this as something that is extremely painful.  It doesn’t have to be this way.

Proper nutrition:

MH, the master herbalist, talks about the Mrs. Barefoot Formula.  It is well known that an expectant mom should be taking pre-natal pills during her pregnancy.  But, this all-natural formula is a little known secret for pregnant moms who wish to absorb plenty of minerals to increase the chances of giving birth to the healthiest of babies.  He says:

“IF YOU CONSUME ENOUGH PLANT MINERALS, YOU GET ALL YOU NEED OF EVERYTHING.  IF YOU CONSUME THE ROCK/CHEMICALS PRENATAL PILLS, YOU END UP THROWING UP AND A SICKLY PREGNANCY.”

It is understood, as part of his healing protocol, normal vitamins don’t absorb well in the body.  Herbs and plant minerals are the way to go.  In addition to the Mrs. Barefoot Formula, a few good natural sources of minerals come from tree iodine, molasses and maple syrup.

Importance of Cord-blood:

Who wouldn’t want their baby to increase their immune system and get the healthiest cells in their body to have a solid foundation in life?

I was reading an interesting article by this midwife in Australia last week.  She goes on to say that, cord blood contains “magical” stem cells, and if your baby becomes ill in the future you may be able to use these cells as treatment.  She says that cord blood banking is inadequate and gives misleading information to parents.  This is new information to me so you will have to do get educated and do the proper research.  She goes on to say:

“This misinformation raises both ethical and legal issues.  The procedure involved in collecting cord blood is sold as ‘simple, safe and effective’. When it comes to decision making about cord blood only three options are presented: keep it (pay for storage), donate it (to a public initiative) or throw it away. What about letting it finish its journey up the umbilical cord and into the baby?”

It would make sense to allow the stem cells from the cord blood to enter the baby in a natural way without the doctor clamping off the supply of nutritious blood too early.

Vaccine exemption forms:

Most parents are afraid that schools won’t let your child enter without having all the vaccinations.  This is simply not true.  Almost every state should have excemption forms that you can fill out.  These forms are necessary to obtain which will allow your son or daughter be vaccine-free due to religious belief.

In the old days there were only three to five common vaccines given.  As of 2010, it is mandatory that children receive 36 – 38 vaccines before the age of six.  Surely, any reasonable person can see that this is overwhelming for any child to have so much toxic side-effects.

Dr. Mom is a master herbalist and trained just like MH is.  Both are Dr. Christopher trained in preventative health-care.  She tells us that:

“In the event, that for whatever reason, [mandatory immunizations] could not be avoided – I have seen people put lobelia tincture under their tongue during the actual immunization to help neutralize the toxins – then as soon as the needle is withdrawn, they put black ointment on the site to draw out as much of the toxins as possible.”

I know everyone wants to rush into having children without taking the proper time to consider the risks and consequences.  Ideally, everyone should do the proper research before planning on having a baby so that you can guide this child in to the world as safely as possible.  If it is already too late for you or your child, then just click on my home page and learn some of the common and uncommon antidotes to get back to health.

Good luck!

Wish Fulfilling Dharani

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva then said to the Buddha: “Bhagavan, I remember that countless billions of kalpas ago, a Buddha, whose name was Thousand Rays King Stillness Thus Come One, appeared in the world. Because of his mercy and mindfulness towards me and all living beings, that Buddha, the World Honored One spoke this Vast, Perfect, Unimpeded, Great Compassionate Heart Dharani, rubbed my crown with his golden hand and said: ‘Virtuous man, you should hold this heart-mantra to give great benefit and happiness to all living beings in the future evil age.’ At that time I was just at the first Bhumi (stage of Bodhisattva), right after hearing this mantra, I exceeded the eighth Bhumi. At that time, as my heart was joyful, I vowed: ‘If I will be able to give benefit and happiness to all living beings in the future, let me have one thousand hands and one thousand eyes immediately.’ Instantly after the vow, I got fully one thousand hands and one thousand eyes on my body, then, the grounds of the worlds of the ten directions quaked in six ways, thousands of Buddhas of the ten directions emitted their light to my body and illuminated boundless worlds of the ten directions.

Wish-Fulfilling Dharani can be found in the Great Compassion Dharani Sutra.

This Mantra has been spoken by previous 9.9 billion Ganges-river-sands Buddhas. Recite this Dharani mantra five times or more in a day, to remove from the body the weighty sins of births and deaths accumulated in hundreds of thousands of billions of kalpas. The Dharani is:

NAMO RATNA-TRAYAYA NAMO ARIYA-VALOKITE –SHVA-RAYA
BODHI-SATTVAYA MAHA-SATTVAYA MAHA-KARUNI-KAYA
OM SARVA-RABHA-YE SUDHANA-DASYA NAMO SKRITVA-IMAM
ARYA-VALOKITE-SHVA-RA RAM-DAVA NAMO NARA-KINDI-HRIH
MAHA-VADHA-SVAME SARVA AR-THA-TO SHUB-HAM AJE-YAM
SARVA-SATA NAMO-VASAT NAMO-VAKA-MAVI-TA-TO
TADYATHA OM AVALOKI-LOKATE KARATE-E HRI
MAHA-BODHISATTVA SARVA SARVA MALA MALA MAHI MAHI
RIDAYAM KURU KURU KAR-MAM DHURU DHURU
VIJAYATE MAHA-VIJAYATI DHARA DHARA DHRI-NI
SHVA-RA-YA CALA CALA MAMA VIMALA MUKTELE
EHI-EHI SHINA SHINA ARSAM PRASARI VISHVA-VISHVAM
PRASAYA HULU-HULU MARA HULU-HULU HRI SARA-SARA
SIRI-SIRI SURU-SURU BODHIYA-BODHIYA BODHAYA-BODHAYA

NAMO RATNA-TRAYAYA NAMO ARYA-VALOKITE-SHVARAYA-SVAHA
OM-SIDHY-ANTU MANTRA-PADAYA-SVAHA

People and gods who recite and hold the Great Compassionate Heart Dharani will obtain fifteen kinds of good birth and will not suffer fifteen kinds of bad death:

  1. They will not die of starvation or poverty
  2. They will not die from having been yoked, imprisoned, caned or otherwise beaten
  3. They will not die at the hands of hostile enemies
  4. They will not be killed in military battle
  5. They will not be killed by tigers, wolves, or other fierce beasts
  6. They will not die from the venom of poisonous snakes, black serpents, or scorpions
  7. They will not drown or be burned to death
  8. They will not be poisoned to death
  9. They will not be killed by mediumistic insects
  10. They will not die of madness or insanity
  11. They will not be killed by landslides or falling trees
  12. They will not die of nightmares sent by evil people
  13. They will not be killed by deviant spirits or evil ghosts
  14. They will not die of evil illnesses that bind the body
  15. They will not commit suicide

Those who recite and hold the Great Compassion Holy Mantra will not suffer any of these fifteen kinds of bad death and will obtain the following fifteen kinds of good birth:

  1. Their place of birth will always have a good king
  2. They will always be born in a good country
  3. They will always be born at a good time
  4. They will always meet virtuous friends
  5. The organs of their body will always be complete
  6. Their hearts of Way (Bodhi) will be pure and mature
  7. They will not violate the prohibitive precepts
  8. All their relatives will be kind and harmonious
  9. They will always have the necessary wealth and goods in abundance
  10. They will always obtain the respect and help of others
  11. Their possessions will not be plundered
  12. They will obtain everything they seek
  13. Dragons, gods, and good spirits will always protect them
  14. In the place where they are born they will see the Buddha and hear the Dharma
  15. They will awaken to the profound meaning of that Proper Dharma which they hear

Those Buddhas spoke this Mantra for the practitioners who practice the six Perfections (Paramita) but have not yet fulfilled them, to make them succeed quickly; For those who have not yet aroused Bodhi-Heart, to make them arouse their Bodhi-Heart quickly; For Sravakas who have not yet achieved fruitions, to make them achieve fruitions quickly; For all gods and supernatural persons in the three-thousand-great-thousand worlds, who have not yet aroused the unsurpassed Bodhi-Heart, to make them arouse the Bodhi-Heart quickly; For all living beings who have not yet gained the root of faith in Mahayana, with the mighty holy power of this Dharani, their seeds of Mahayana and Dharma-buds will grow quickly; with the power of my expedients, mercy and compassion, all of their needs will be supplied.

For those living beings of the three evil paths, who live in the gloomy regions of the three-thousand-great-thousand worlds, when they hear this Mantra, they will all be free from suffering;

For Bodhisattvas who have not yet achieved the first Bhumi, to make them achieve quickly, and make them achieve even up to the tenth Bhumi, and even up to the Buddhahood, with the thirty-two marks and the eighty minor marks achieved naturally.

If a Voice-Hearer (Sravaka) once hears this Dharani pass by his ears, if he practices and writes this Dharani, and if he settles down with straightforward heart in accord with Dharma, then he will naturally achieve the four Sramana-fruits even if he does not seek for the fruitions.

Parinirvana of His Holiness

As some of you may know, on March 27th, 2009 His Holiness Penor Rinpoche passed into parinirvana.  He was considered to be one of the strongest emanations of Longchenpa and Vimalamitra in our time.

The Palyul Clear Light special issue (p. 42) has two great quotes about the merits of performing Ganachakra ceremonies or Tsok Feast offerings on this day.

The Kalachakra Tantra of Holding the Qualities of the Lama teaches:

Whatever virtue is accumulated by relatives for the sake of the dead will ripen upon the dead wherever he or she is born, just as a calf follows the cow.  Likewise the offerings devoted disciples make out of sorrow when their master passes away will ripen upon the master, whose wishes will be fulfilled; this will enable the disciple to follow his master’s example.  Whoever marks the date, month and the year of their master’s demise and makes offerings on that day will extinguish negative karma accumulated over many eons.  Achievement of the unsurpassable state will certainly be enabled.

It further states:

This merit is not equaled even by the merit of donating eyes or giving life to all beings in the three thousand world systems who are either blind or whose life is deteriorating.  This merit is not equaled even by the merit accumulated by leading all beings of the three thousand world systems towards arhathood or by making offering to them for eons.  The merit accumulated by making offerings on the anniversary of one’s lama will dispel negative karma and obscurations accrued for countless eons, like the rays of the sun dispelling darkness.

This merit is superior to that accumulated by all beings in the three thousand world systems who gained merit through venerating and serving the Buddha.  Moreover, this merit is greater than the merit accrued by donating eyes, curing disease, and dispelling the sorrow of beings who are blind, ill or tormented by suffering in the hell realms and who are as numerous as the dust particles of the three thousand world systems.

The Tantra of the Protector Crow states:

One who holds ceremonies
During the anniversaries
Of the lama’s passing.
Will attain the irreversible state
And after death will be reborn in the realm of
the Khachod dakinis

Vimalamitra statue:

On November 12, 2009 the Vimalamitra statue was consecrated in honor of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche at Tashi Choling, Oregon.  Dharma artist, Lama Sonam Tsering, worked on the construction of the Vimalamitra statue.  It has been said that His Holiness came to visit the center long ago and the statue now resides exactly where he had sat and gave teachings.

The Shurangama Sutra states:

Mahakasyapa who was present with the bhiksuni Golden Light and others (of his group), then rose from his seat, prostrated himself with his head at the feet of the Buddha and declared:

“In a former aeon, when Candra-surya-pradipa Buddha appeared in this world, I had a chance of following him and of hearing the Dharma which I practised.  After he had passed away, I revered his relics, lit lamps to perpetuate his light and decorated his statue with pure gold powder.  Since then, in every subsequent reincarnation, my body has been radiant with perfect golden light.”

You can make donations to partake in the supreme merits of creating a statue of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche at this site: http://tashicholing.org/

Ganachakra ceremonies:

For Buddhists, the Ganachakra tsok is a puja or ceremony which includes the recitation of sacred text and mantras.  In addition, there are many abundant offerings of music, candles, food and even wine.  These ceremonies are traditionally based on the Lunar Calender.

Therefore, each year His Holiness Paranirana Day will be celebrated on a slightly different day.  It is important to know, when His Holiness passed away, it was on the First day of the Second month of the Tibetan lunar calendar.  Past dates have landed on:

  1. April 4, 2011
  2. March 23, 2012

The next ceremony will be held on:  March 12, 2013

Hope that helps!

The sky is falling

As most of you know on March 11, 2011 Japan had an unprecedented earthquake that registered 9.0 on the Richter scale and the subsequent tsunami that hit Tohoku, Japan was devastating.

At least three nuclear reactors exploded due to hydrogen gas that had built up within their outer containment buildings.

Taking Iodine supplements is the first thing that everyone thinks of when there is radiation poisoning. It has been said that the side effects of taking a chemical based iodine is shrinking of the testes in men. If this is the case, then we can infer that women would have damage to their ovaries as well.  Not many know there is a Natural Tree Based Iodine that is free from these harmful side-effects.

MH, the Barefoot Herbalist, just created a new formula called “The Sky is Falling” for the purpose of reducing the levels of radiation poisoning.  MH says:

“IF ocean plant Iodine is GREAT FOR US and I think we can all agree the history says it is, then my Theory is TREE IODINE is first hand Iodine and should obey nature better than eating second hand Iodine. The key word being ‘TREE’, it agrees with the Bible or ancient writers of our past.”

In his formula, some of the top herbs to remove radiation poisoning are Tree Iodine minerals, American Ginseng and Cilantro. As I investigate alternative healing, it is very rare to find such a person as MH who creates all natural products with no fillers in his herbal supplements and sprays.  If you seek to OBEY NATURE you can rest assure that nature will always guide you towards the truth. If you indiscriminately obey man sooner or later you will discover the hidden agenda is based on selfishness, solely for the making of profit.

MH suggests that the first year in Japan will be the hardest as their bodies absorbs these toxins through the air they breathe, the foods they eat and the water they drink.  He goes on to say that it may well be 40 years before a full recovery of their eco-system will come about.

In reality, since the winds will blow this radiation all around the earth in large or small quantities depending on how far away you are; we all need to pay attention to this issue.

The suggested dose:

SUGGESTED DOSE: 1 DROPPER DAILY OR MORE AS DESIRED.
WEST COAST: 1 DROPPER MORNING AND NIGHT FOR LIFE.
CHINA: 1 DROPPER 3X DAILY FOR LIFE.
JAPAN: 1 DROPPER EVERY WAKING HOUR FOR 1 YEAR, THEN 1 DROPPER 3X DAILY FOR LIFE.

Good luck!

Sungazing method

MH has talked about sungazing as one of the important ways to get back to health.  He always says the modern person spends too much time in indoors, in the dark – and in the long run this is definitely not good for our health.  In the past, he has recommended conceiving children outdoors to create more Aware Beings.  I don’t know much about that but it would be interesting to hear feedback on children conceived under the sun and how they behave in life afterwards.

At the Solar Healing Center website Hira Ratan Manek has one of the better methods for practicing this form safely.  I accomplished three months worth of sungazing which is up to the 15 minute mark and had many good results from it.  Once you start gazing at the sun it will activate the pituitary and pineal glands in the brain.  It will also open up blockages in the spine right away.  Another good quality about the practice is, it will heal and repair the functional channel to improve digestion.

When you gaze directly at the sun, the most important benefit is steadying the eyes.  As a rule of thumb, when the eyes are steady the mind becomes steady.  As we intentionally still our body there is a better chance to deepen our meditative practice and stability can be gained.  A famous quote from the bible says:

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

You can gaze directly or indirectly at the sun.  When you are fully and properly trained, gazing DIRECTLY at the sun will yield the most benefits. In this case you will experience the deepest penetration of light and energy into your system.  When you are not too experienced you can gaze INDIRECTLY and let the light begin to enter your system slower as you stare into the sky alone or look through the leaves of a tree with the sunlight being diffused.

For best results, it has been taught to stand on sand or dirt and not the grass while gazing at the sun.  If you are not sure, try both until you can perceive what is better.  After working with it I am sure you can discern that standing in sand, gravel or dirt is a lot better energetic wise.

The method: Stare at the sun for ten seconds on day one; then add ten seconds to each day.  Blinking is OK.  When finished, palm your hands over your eyes and concentrate on the after-image of the sun until it disappears.

  • After 90 days all mental disorders and mental diseases will be cured
  • After 180 days all physical disorders get cured
  • After 270 days hunger pangs disappear and you attain victory over taste and hunger

Power boost: Looking at the sun for 30 seconds early in the morning reduces melatonin levels right away so your body temperature rises immediately.  This will counteract the tendency to sleep all day like a vampire and you feel super-charged.

It is very important to practice during the safe hours. Research more about it at the HRM website:

“No harm will come to your eyes during the morning and evening safe hours.  The safe hours are anytime within 1-hour window after sunrise or anytime within the 1-hr window before sunset.  It is scientifically proven beyond a reasonable doubt that during these times, one is free from UV and IR rays exposure, which is harmful to your eyes.” — Hira Ratan Manek

RULE: It is import to get thoroughly educated first and NOT exceed 44 minutes as it will be dangerous.

TIPS: I discovered two things with my own observations of this practice.  First, if you bare your teeth to the sun – the bones all through-out the body are infused with healing light.  Second, if you close your eyes and face the sun it feels like an acupuncture session as the individual channels that are in most need of repair get energized.

IMPORTANT: Always palm the eyes afterwards as this will be cooling.  If you are attuned to reiki…the symbols in the palms will add more beneficial healing energy into your eyes and throughout your nervous system.

One last thing, BEFORE each session it is good to drink a glass of water to hydrate your body and AFTER the session it is best to walk on the grass for some time to ground the solar energy that you took in.

Good luck!
